I experimented a little and found that init 0 keeps X from launching again, but it
does not shutdown X. I can work around this by making X end.

Hi folks,
I've just installed LTSP 4.0 and everything seems to work fine.
Now I'm tuning the client but I got an error I can't solve:

This means that your syslog server is not listening. Tell
it to listen.
How can I tell the syslog server to listen?

I know that these are very low-end workstations, but I do not have a budget to upgrade

upgrade the PC's.

I reference it as /ltsp3 in DHCP.

Currently we are using Webmin to manage the lts.conf. This is OK. However we have an
Asset DB on a MSSql server. Right now we are duplicating data between the two DB's.
How can I make the lts clients query a Microsoft SQL 2000 database to configure
themselves? Is it possible?

I must have done something wrong with my initrd.gz. I noticed that my terminal did

Ours is a Windows shop with a 2000 DHCP server. Our director balked at
the idea of using DHCP reservations for our soon to be more than 150 ltsp
clients. We put this in rc.local to set the hostname equal to the MAC
address. Other people might want to do the same thing. (note ifconfig2 is
the start_ws
script. The 2000 server that we are using disconnects
users after a couple minutes if they do not login, so
we use an intermediate script to avoid constantly
bringing up the login window.

Hi,
LTSP rocks!
I am using kernel 2.4.9 sources downloaded from

Alan,
Are you using Red Hat? In Red Hat the TFTP server chroot's to /tftpboot
with the -s parameter in inetd or xinetd. Therefore you would need to
change the path to the file to /lts/vmlinuz*.
