reasoning was that I would leave this sort of device on my desk for serious
connectivity to devices like printers, scanners speakers etc and then simply
disconnect the laptop to take it away for meetings

Thge short answer is not the way you want.
You can take each part that is a folder and turn it into a long audio file. Or
you can re-tag each file for a recipe or whatever. Then you can put them all in
the same album and tag them as an audio book. Then your friend can navigate
through the book
