we should check “Allow VoiceOver To Be Controlled With Apple Script”

Probably easiest thing would be to find the AppleScript file and open it with
Script Editor and try executing it there. command-r will run the Script in the
active window. If there are errors with the script they will appear in a
dialog box. Also,
I also forgot to add that some of my apple scripts for the keyboard commander
are not working. for instance, the script to say time and battery status is not
working, but my keystroke to announce wifi status appears to be working. Anyone
know how I can fix this?

I had thought of that. I'll probably go the root of opening the folder
directly in VLC, but the point is, it's oing to be dificult aclimatizing this
particular new person to VLC because of his challenges and a script would make
it easier. He's having trouble with the file management stuff.
There is no need for such a script.
Simply open the folder.
PressCommand A to select all files and then command down arrow to open
selected files. VLC will open and treat the folder as a Playlist.

I think it can, provided the download from the website never changes its
format. You'll want to look at opening URLs, stripping text (this may be easier
in 10.9 since you can borrow Cocoa libraries), and the Numbers scripting
