No matter what you end up buying DO NOT buy a receive if it does not have in
addition to Dolby Digital, DTS (Digital Theater Sound).
DTS is the most superior form of surround sound currently available to the
consumer.

Domestically available R70's seem to retail at about $230, and R90's are

What does that $100 buy?
R90 can be digitally linked to the computer, correct? Is that with a USB?
Pictures I see do not show a standard USB port. So has Sony modified a

OK... here goes.
There is basically very little difference between the R70 and R90 in terms
of important features.
The USB recording thingy is just a USB plug on one end with a digital to
analogue converter in the middle and a normal analogue 3.5mm jack plug on
the other end. AFAIK, it does

This sounds like a pretty neat gadget.
Anyone know if this USB device will work under Linux?
I doubt it,
I just got a R91 in from Minidisco, with a 100V transformer.,
I live in Israel and so I changed to an 220V transformer. When recording
with the transformer plugged in I the recorder either skips or stops
playing showing the message "MEM OVER" .
without the recorder plugged in it records fine.

Not if you also have a Sony deck that has automatic END SEARCH.
Sorry to waste bandwidth like this, but I made a small mistake in my last
post. In fact, the R70 has a non-LCD remote, not an R55 style one, so it
is even harder to use in the dark.
