There seems to be too much attention placed on the limitations of MD's
titling capabilities, but, as in the MD vs MP3 debate we had recently, only
that and the transfer came up as flaws with the system. Titling, to me, is
more of a novelty than as a compulsory part of recording. Now, this is

And for me it is a nicety rather than a necessity. That's why I called
hitting its limit a drawback of MDLP in the subject line and not the
downfall of MDLP.

At one point you were all discussing how to record internet radio and
programs to use, my main question is how to get an MZR900 to turn on at a
certain point. Is there a way? AND what about this Synchro Record? It
said when I bought it, it could work with a mic or analog input but it only
Maybe something thats minor would actually be worth hinting to Sony, simply
because they are more likely to change a little part of MiniDiscs than the
whole infrastructure as some were mentioning in the debate. From where I see
it, it would only be the case of updating the firmware.
I am taking this poll because I'm curious to know how many people will buy, upgrade to
or pass on the MZ-R909.
You don't have to own an R900 (everyone will pass then); heck, you don't even have to
own a single piece of minidisc equipment; just say BUY (I don't have any minidisc

I will not be upgrading, because the 900 is a beasty piece of equipment
anyway, and if I want to use Type R, I'll use my deck, simple as that, which
leaves the group function, hehe, bunch of crap

As for scripting the R900 to turn on at a certain point, your guess is as
good as mine. But synchro rec ONLY works with digital sources, not analog
ones. It says so in the manual.

I was going to suggest that, but I thought to myself, it's always possible that
they came out with some new technology I am unaware of.

From what I understand, the only reason something syncs is because data is
sent along the optics/coax, and as there is no hissing or anything, then
nothing will record until audio is present, as it is dead silent. There is
no timing code (only subcode data in the S/PDIF standard is SCMS, and

In fact, the MD format reserved 8 sectors for UTOC data, and only 3 are used
by the current track, title, datestamp maps. Perhaps the Group function uses
another sector,
and perhaps they could define an extended titlemap sector to double the
titling capacity or somesuch. The point is that the
