My mom had a couple of these compacters over the years. Both required repairs
as they aged, mostly centered around limit switches (I replaced a couple
myself.)
They operate on a screw and ram arrangement, with an Acme threaded rod or screw
on each side that the top of the ram is connected to.

problems with clogging, then again we don't run much vegetation down it. So

We live in the city and remember well the maggot infested
garbage-pail-in-ground-out-back. We too have had GD problems in the
past. Our solution was two fold, Improve the 100 year old crusty
plumbing for the tenants, remove those GD's not needed and (our
favorite) freeze all the garbage
The justification of this is overload on sewage treatment facilities by
stuff that would otherwise go into the trash.
Ground up stuff adds biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), which is what sewage
treatment plants remove. The more BOD in the waste stream, the more sewage
treatment plant is required
Don't know about the retreads, but with everything else I have bought
from them they have been good about returns when i needed to.

Careful with those, Newegg tends to have a lousy return policy on them. A

generic diesel additive or biodiesel for a few tanks would help clean
up grit etc. I'd forgotten about the issue, my sender is fairly
reliable now that you mention it but was bad when I first got the car
