Corrosion in the rheostat. I soldered a jumper to bypass the dimmer, since the bubs are pretty dim anyway. The dash lights (including all instrument cluster gauges and ACC control panel) on my 1985 300TD quit working when I took the car for a spin after it had sat idle for a couple weeks.

Boise is nice if you don’t mind winter. It’s surprisingly mild, much like Denver can be, due to the location. I would absolutely go to Boise if I had to move north of the Mason-Dixon Line. You’ll have to put up with a lot of Mormons, though. It’s sort of a second Salt Lake City of sorts.
