Check the timing chain, they dont' last all that long in an M103
(single row chain!), and your symptoms sound a great deal like late
valve timing -- the power is still there, but it doesn't show up until
high rpm.

The fault was correctly diagnosed by all as a faulty fuel pump relay and duly
replaced .
I even repaired the old relay .It had two cold solder joints which I resoldered
. Tested, it works perfectly like the new.!

perfect in idling again.
Originally It had stalled twice over a period of a few minutes and very
reluctantly restarted.

It must be a relay you are referring to , A temp sensor is a solid state
NTC device,no moving part ,on the other hand relay's do occasionally
freeze up and a little contact cleaner squirt & tapping,, frees them.
