Geez, thank goodness they're too far away.
About fifteen years ago, I had opportunity to pick up two Pontons
(180D and 190D) for $800 in Tacoma. The 180D even ran and I drove it
around the neighborhood--still kicking myself real good for letting
those two slip through my fingers.

Olympia,
On a related note, my wife informed me this morning(!) that the turn
signals in her W123 quit working sometime yesterday. Thanks to this
list, I knew to walk calmly out to the car and punch the hazard switch
a few dozen times, which magically resurrected the signals. Thanks
list.

It's that time of the year again folks. Yesterday, when I was picking
my kids up in the rainy darkness, I lost my rear wiper, rear window
defogger, and stereo. When I got home I checked the fuse box for
obvious signs of blown fuses, but none were evident. Further
inspection revealed that several

I know the lack of a reassuring smoke trail can be disconcerting, so
I'm willing to package up some of my surplus into aerosol cans for
you. You could then release a whiff at your leisure or in times of
stress and uncertainty. I'm here to help.

...and Don, I recently authored a study, complete with a survey with
focus groups and found that nine out of ten members of the special

versus the more outmoded and undesirable W123. Numbers don't lie my

Just one possibility, but try removing the carpeted panels from the
transmission tunnel, then look to see if the foam drain tubes from the
climate control box have become disintegrated--there's one on either
side of the tunnel.

Mine also exhibited this errant behavior, so my "solution" was to tie
system vacuum semi-permanently to the footwell vacuum pod. Works ok,
until you need full defrost. I need to do some serious diagnostics
this Fall/Winter, cuz I'm beyond tired of having a defective ACC.

Agreed, but it does fit with my overall philosophy with regards to tax
policy; punish the bads and reward the goods. Ever the contrarian, I
think the guv should tax the hell outta road fuels, and especially

No, but they rightfully should be intercooled...hell, ALL turbodiesels
should come with an intercooler! I'd love to play with an OM602 turbo
someday. The injection pump should have enough reserve fueling to
theoretically bump horsepower up to stock OM603 power levels with the
right massaging tech
I think PB first showed up with the "Bay Window" vans in '68, or
possibly in '71 when they first were offered with front disc brakes.
I do know my '67 "Split Window" didn't have PB.

I believe VW switched from a 3/4 ton rating to 1 ton in '62 or '63
IIRC. I've owned 6 vans/vanagons and can personally verify for their
robust ability to haul a rather large sum of stuff anywhere the engine
could conceivably push it.
