And not to mention the fact that much of what has been coming out of the
University of Oregon goes against the grain
of what this listserv represents.

It is always proper protocol to jump in on a discussion on a listserv.
That's what the listserv is for. :-)
You ask an interesting question. If I had to put MOT in a category I
would say it leans more toward the Whole Language perspective. This is

Sorry I'm so late to respond. Do not go with Scott Foresman. Our district
has it. I'm a first grade teacher and the reading level isn't appropriate
for the middle or low students. In January, my students were to read Frog and
Toad. Most were not ready for a J reading level. The
Not too many years ago, when I was teaching in a multiage primary
classroom, the Frog and Toad books were standard second grade fare. It
is very sad how everything is getting pushed down in a frenzy of the
search for rigor as though pushing everything to a lower grade

It is so interesting how schools differ. Frog and Toad has always been a
first grade text here in my district...BUT it was always done as one of the
last
stories of the year so I guess that is almost second grade.

I would consider it to be very high first grade reading, or appropriate to

My district adopted Houghton Mifflin this school year. The basal stories
are good, the problem I have with the series is that our district has decided
that we aren't supposed to use anything other than the publishers components.
I teach third grade and there are leveled readers, however,
, including law enforcement.

I would caution people in their quest for a new reading program to dig
deep when it comes to leveled reading. Many or most programs have
leveled readers but they are not all the same. I don't have specifics
related to specific companies, but some leveled readers don't contain
necessary elements

I am serving on a committee to adopt a new basal series, probably for
next year. I also teach first grade and a reading in the elementary
