permanently close 190th Street, which allows birders and others to reach
the 190th Street natural area south of Whitetail Park. It was well worth

At 180th Street we had great views of Soras and Spottted Sandpipers. Ducks
included several Redhead, a Ringed-neck, and about 20 Ruddies. New birds
included Marsh Wren, Bank Swallow, a Northern Waterthrush, and Yellow

Did you know that if you shine UV light on Puffin beaks they shine like
glow sticks? To test this they had to protect the Puffin eyes with special

When doing the Breeding Bird Atlas, we had confirmed breeding Black &
Whites in Goodhue County with probable breeding elsewhere in Goodhue and a

As dusk deepens in the yard, you can hear the nesting Robins going crazy
around it. In the morning we can hear at least two Tufted Titmice calling.
I am not sure whether this means they are nesting nearby or what. Most of

I count four records before yours: 1957, 2006. 2007, 2012, assuming that
all three reports in 2012 were the same bird. All occurred in the winter.
A "0" on the Christmas Bird Count means that the bird was found just before

I found one male and perhaps a female Blue Grosbeak at 140th Street Marsh.
It was perched on a small sign about half way up the hill at the bend in
the road. Also had Dickcissesl and several female and young Orchard Orioles.

direct flight, and a wing span of about a foot. It appeared to be whitish

Today (Sunday) I heard and saw the first Chimney Swifts. Three swifts were
flying here late this afternoon about twice as high as expected.

Mud (or Bull Frog) Pond by Ravena Trail.
3) A Sandhill Crane was heard calling east of Annette Avenue SE of
Whitetail Woods.
