I reckon that it must have something to do with the 0.18.1+ code,
because on 0.18 everything ran smoothly. Since I compiled the 0.18.1
release (from the website) and used it, the playback of recordings
freezes after a few seconds. Everytime I have to stop it and press play
once again; only then

The problem was that the command modprobe ivtv was being executed after
mythbackend was started. (hmm.. what a surprise)
Someone instructed me on how to adjust the /etc/init.d/mythbackend file to
automatically load the ivtv module. They told me to put it in

I found the solution to my problem.. it might also be yours.
The ivtv module which drives the hauppauge (and other) cards was loading
AFTER the mythbackend.
The module must load BEFORE /etc/init.d/mythbackend is called.

In mythweb check the channels link under the settings menu, you can
disable visability of individual channels there. Perhaps it got it's

channel from the command-line (e.g. tzap "BBC ONE") assuming you've

They didn't in the one that I purchased (and returned). To fabricate
one you'd need to able to cut the holes in the right places for the
connectors. May be more than you're willing to do.
Make sure you get a quiet case fan. Also get a quiet fan for your
CPU. Also make sure you get a hard drive that is quiet. I would also
get a vid card that doesn't have a fan. Any processor will work fine.

My kids deleted just about every recording on my myth box.
The status still shows a lot of disk space used.
Is there a way to recover these deleted recordings?

DVD player works fine, and using mplayer to test the
captured video, that MythTV captured, works fine.
Intersting note, I get a message:
