Hi all-
I'm starting to get the hang of all this, but could use some more advice.
The core of my problem is that I can't get a dialup ppp connection without
going to root and jumping through some hoops, which makes linux decidedly
impractical for people like my girlfriend or houseguests to use
Hi out there!
How can I get access to the windows partition - and files there from linux
in mandrake 6.0.
Formerly I have been using SUSE Linux and the tool yast offered that in an
easy way. Something similar in Mandrake?
regards
Hans
I think you're asking how to access windows partitions? If not then please
disregard.
To have your windows partition mounted at startup, edit /etc/fstab with the
line
file systemmount pointtypeoptionsdumppass
/dev/hda1/Windows vfat defaults

Can anybody tell me which RPMs on the Mandrake CD contain libglib.so.1?
I'm trying to install X11amp alpha 3-2 and I've done it before successfully,

Just a guess here maybe you need to recompile your kernel to enable SMP?
I don't know. I've never used SMP, but my THINKING is that it should work
just fine w/o recompiling, but that the second processor will not be used.
One thing, after reading this list, I've heard that installing Mandrake
Edit your FSTAB (as root) to show that partition similar to the following:
/dev/hda/mnt/windows/vfatauto, user, rw, (etc--whatever other
mods you want in here) 00
This is assuming that Windows is loaded onto your primary partition on an
IDE hard drive.

I just istalled version 6.0 (previous was 5.0). Now when I start up ppp,
using my old 5.1 ppp-on script, the ppp0.pid is placed in /etc/ppp
instead of /var/run. Is this the way this is supposed to work in version
6.0, is there a fix for this? The same thing happens when I use

Im trying to use a Backpack cd-rom. It hooks you my parallel

have to do to use this drive?
Thanks

I just installed FreeAmp 1.2.3 for Linux. Good problem, but I'm having trouble.
The problem installs in /usr/local/bin by default and that's where mine is. My
question is how do I set a path to /usr/local/bin so I can just type 'freeamp
/mp3s/*.mp3' instead of typing '/usr/local/bin/freeamp' to

Found out what I did. I accidentally installed both version 1.0.6 AND 1.2.0 of
glib and gtk+. And now I can't uninstall any of them.

I just encountered some hard drive errors on bootup. A portion of my boot

/dev/hda7 reached maximal mount count, check forced
I then had a long disk read, followed by something to the
effect of:
hard drive has errors, run fsck MANUALLY, without options
