I'm trying to update my sound drivers so I can use
my SB Live! soundcard and I unpacked the file but then it says I have to do a
'make depend' then 'make clean' then just 'make' but none of them work...Any
suggestions?

There's two parts to X: the server (the display unit, the machine you're
sitting at) and the client (the programs that connect to the X server to
display their output). Telnet opens a session so you can run programs,
but you're not necessarily running an X Server which can accept display
output.

fdisk... I think the command is fdisk -mbr or fdisk mbr, something like

Yes, it is supported and when you execute sndconfig regconaise the sound

Where is "TweakUI for KDE" when you need it ;-)

If you feel you've tried everything else, open your box, disconnect your
modem (ground or earth yourself first), and set the jumpers to a
COM that isn't occupied by your mouse and to any free IRQ except for 15
and (?). There should be a jumper to disable PnP, do this, and all
should be well.
I don't like the NT bootloader myself, but there is a way to get it to
load a Linux partition if anyone would be interested in doing this :)
Never done it myself but I know it's out there. I believe you have to
use LOADLIN and basically set up a 2-5 meg partition to boot the linux
kernel off

Well, I want to install L-M 6.1 on my new laptop and have a question or two
before going ahead. The machine comes with Windows installed on the Hard
Drive. I want to split the drive into a Windows partition and a Linux
partition. Will Disk Druid resize the Windows partition without
Greggno, disk druid does not have that capability. In the dosutils
directory of your installation CD there is a dos program called
fips.exe. This will do dynamic resizing, but be sure to read the docs
thoroughly. If you have Partition Magic available to you it's a lot
easier to use, but
I use Autostart (to run kgoodstuff and kwikdisk) when I run KDE, although I've
been using Window Maker lately(I think I just switched window managers). If
there is a comparably easy way to start programs when KDE starts take them out
(something like .xinit right?).

Just like the e-mail message you got, use FIPS. I used it on *my* new Dell
that had only one WIndows 98 partition. Worked very well. I went the extra
mile and removed my Windows cache file and defragged the disk. Used FIPS then
re-set the cache. Been working great with no problems.
