I have recently just reinstalled my system.
Since the reinstall i have not been able to not been able to use my
cdrom drive. If i click on the icon on the dekstop it reports that it is
not a valid block device.

hmm, i had the same problem on X install. It detected two graphics cards
(i only have one), and one of them was the Oxygen card, erm which i dont
have.
I say problem, but it isnt really, Mandrake runs quite happily thinking
i have two.

I have to disagree with the comments below.
I have had experience with numerous distributions, including Suse and
Redhat, and i have found the support excellent for both, except that
Redhat has a kind of 'corporate' feel to it which i dont like.
One of the main reasons i have stuck with

Just a note.. Linux believes that unused RAM is wasted RAM, it will
always try and use as much as it can.
Swap is much slower than actual ram, so if it isnt using it, be pleased!

The Anti-Aliased fonts are not activated by default.
I dont know if they work in Gnome, but if you wantt hem activated in
KDE, open the Kde Control Center , head to 'Look and Feel' and theres an
option in there somewhere to use Anti-Aliased fonts.
You will have to restart X to see the effect.
On mine, i usually connect at 52000 and get average download times of
between 4k and 5k per second. I do know that this can vary a lot
depending on your modem and how close you are to the exchange.

Hi, this is the way i would go about it,
cd /mount
md windows
su root
mount -t vfat /dev/[hdx] /mount/windows
(substituting x for your drive)
Im pretty sure this is the way i used to do it.
Make sure that the drive isnt being mounted some other way, ie in
/etc/.fstab

It all depends how you partitioned your system in the first place, if
you had a separate partition of /home then you need not format that at
install time and all info in there will be safe.

I then give the command 'make mrproper' which goes ok.
