This is the beauty of Open Source, after all; I could get myself a copy with
that function hacked into it..

Well, I can't for life of me figure out why the MPlayer tar ball is not
configuring. Has any one else been succesful in configuring, make and
make install MPlayer in LM8?
I had a couple of problems, which I fixed, and then it configured and
installed great.
Say more about is not
Every now and then gkrellm reports that my CPU is totally pegged for some
length of time. I see from 'top' that the culprit is something called
'kapm-idled'.
Guessing from the second word of that, I'd say it's a daemon that's
preventing kapm from running while the machine is in use. So, two
--help' for the exact syntax of that. The resulting
binary executes fine, despite the admonition not to bother sending bug
requests.

So hopefully my luck will be better than yours was. I'll be sure and post any
successes I have and the steps that led to it!

though, when I close XMMS, I get all the sounds queued up since XMMS got its

These are both more like annoyances than actual complaints. Still, maybe
there's an easy fix...
Thanks!

shutdown or reboot the machine

that...
sudo is sort of tricky to set up, but I found that if I take my time with the
docs, it all came clear.

How would I adjust the repeat rate of my keyboard? I've found that in KDE's
configuration, under peripherals there's a keyboard config program where I
can turn OFF key repeat, but what I really want is for it to just repeat
after a longer delay.
Any pointers?

Have you tried setting 16 bpp? I don't have an ATI card, but most
cards work best with 3d accel if you use 16. For many like 3DFX cards,
it's a must.
I'll try it, thanks.
That did it! Thank you!
