From these symptoms, is it likely that the drive has gone duff, or can

There are two lasers in the drive, one for playing and one for recording.
I tried to burn a cd using cdrecord and got the output below.
Hints welcome, I've got to clean my HD!

Thanks, I knew I'd forgotten something simple.
Title: CD Burner - changed ISA channel
In order to use 'on the fly' burning, I had to move my CD Burner to another ISA channel as it was a slave to my DVD drive, and thus data transfers would be unreliable. Just wondering what the best way to re-configure the ide-scsi emulation, mountings,
You have a burner on an ISA channel? Don't you mean an IDE channel?

What cd burning software comes with Mandrake

I had a similar problem following those instructions. Even with my burner set up

I installed an IDE cd burner today (finally) and although Mandrake
recognizes it, it doesn't seem to be able to access it. I put the slave
jumper on, made sure the master cd was set right, plugged it in to the
end of the ide cable, and the light comes on when it boots and the POST

Michael,
I haven't gotten my burner to work yet either but the following link

The CD RW seems to be faked out to be a SCSI device even though
it's really an IDE device. Try linking cdrom - scd0 and read the tutorial
on the mandrake site for CD RW it sort of talks about this. Mine used
to think it should be hdd and wouldn't do anything but after switching

Hi there!
I have a problem with the configuring of my CD RW. I am currently
reading the MUO's

then i do
ls -l /dev/cdrom1 and getthe same except 8 May 22 13:38
