Thanks to the questions Terry asked last night and John's suggestions today, I
have finally achieved a partially workable lilo.
Problem is, the brain stops working with anything like efficiency when the

I tried to rescue it with the mandrake install CD and tried chroot /mnt and all
Ooo...Ooo...I know!
Boot from the install CD, hit F1 on the first screen, then on the boot:
prompt type rescue. You should get a menu come up after a few moments
later with one of the items being Restore Boot Loader. Choose the
Restore Boot Loader menu item. I've done this with the 8.2beta1
Any chance you can boot from the mandrake CD and mount / . Then send a
copy of lilo.conf ?

Ty, a couple of questions:
1) When you did the reinstall, what SCSI driver did you choose? I know,
silly question, but it's good to double-check.
2) When you boot off the boot disk, can you mount partitions that exist on
the SCSI drive?
3) At what point during the boot process do you receive

I thought I would just let you know in case someone else has the same problem.
As you know I tried every thing to get lilo to work, then it suddenly hit me..
I had installed a DVD recently and with rearranging the leads had

O.K. heres the scoop, I am running Win98
Go ahead and finish the install despite the boot disk and LILO not working, and
use loadlin to boot Linux. Then you can go 'head and try installing LILO or
making a boot disk manually.
If you still can't, you may have to use loadlin indefinitely... if so, I'd
suggest editing the msdos.sys
