Xserver fails when booting up. I get the nvidia screen and the blue
screen, then it goes to the command line. Entering startx also fails.
I forgot and left installation cd2 in the cdrom from previously
installing an application. When I booted the install command came up
asking if I wanted

Improper initialisation of Nvidia driver may be due
to improper compilation or pipe broken cases where
it would be better to rebuild the Nvidia driver to
avoid the problem.

Well I was having system problem and some one said to try using an older
version of X 3.xx. But it made no difference and I pretty much narrowed
my problem down to hardware.
I now want to upgrade to 4.01 to take advantage of wineX.

XFree86 is the X-server that comes with Mandrake. Without it, Linux would be
a command-line only affair (unless you spent $$$ for a commercial X-server).
