Okay, like a lot of people, I liked install and remove integrated together but
I can live with them being split up...BUT
Many, many times I go to install a package and it says:
Everything already installed (is it supposed to be like that?)
As su, I issued a rpm --rebuilddb, but it didn't

Experimenting is a good way to learn, isn't it?
Unfortunately, I messed around with the entry for CD1 in Mandrake Software
Manager (MSM), deleted it and than added it again. Now when I try to add
software from CD1, the system keeps asking me for CD1, even when the CD is
in the CD player.

I just read Derek J.'s message about how to make Software Manager update its
database so I can start browsing the list of packages on my cds or the web.
I assume that this is done before looking at the cds so that any newer
versions be found. So is the Software
I have a system set up that I'm trying to use headless (without a local keyboard,
monitor, mouse). Most things work fine, except, it seems, for the X-window
applications that require root authorization. The application that I'm particularly
interested in is Software Manager. When I run it
a thought, have you tried using the software manager in
webmin ?? or how about running the software manager from a command line
which you are su'ed in ??

sorry i'm afraid i can't help you with your problem, but i would like to
know how you got exceed to work. I've tried a number of times, but the best
i got was an x teminal window, no full desktop
