Worth a shot. What is the difference between an induction ammeter and just
a regular ammeter?

Only place it could leak is from is an O ring where the starter fits into the
engine. When in doubt, pull it out. Disconnect the battery and the lead at the
starter, remove two bolts that hold the starter and pull it out. I've never
seen one leak but there is always a first time. Have you cleane
I'll take a crack at this, it sounds like a starter issue more than a battery.
The battery wouldn't come back that much but the starter would cool off. See if
anybody has an induction ammeter to see how much the starter draws hot / cold.
Just a guess...

We used to use early Vette boxes or ones from a dump truck on our sportsman
cars. Same deal, tube front end. All this was before power steering came to be
used on dirt cars. Those quick boxes required a MAN to handle. 25 laps would
beat me up good.

I just used a small flat-head screwdriver to pry it out. My snap
rings had 4 areas to hook the screwdriver into - I used the 2 closest
to the gap in the ring and it popped right out.

Only about 1500 miles on a brand new unit. Oiled and ready to go.
I'll take $50 via PayPal and that will get it shipped to your door via

Hey Guys...
My goal was to have my Nighthawk running by today (May 1st), but due
to financial constraints (it takes 3-5 days to transfer funds from a
bank account to a paypal account-uuhhhggg) I wasn't able to reach my
goal...BUT...I was able to finally order the starter rebuild kit for
my night
Thanks Marco,
I do have a cheap battery and have considered replacing it. That may be
where I start.

DRILL OUT THE LOCK?!!! AY CARUMBA!!!
Holy Moly, get some advice on that option before taking it. Have a
locksmith pick it or something. I'm not well-versed in tank locks but
that's the only mechanism that keeps your tank closed. The key for the
ignition is the same key that opens the tank unles
I'm not sure how you'd vent the cap.

the vent line was blocked off. I would ride and the bike would
eventually stall because a vacuum developed in the tank. Until I found
the blocked vent tube, I lived with the problem by openi
I had something similar happen to my CB750 - the battery was happy
when the bike was running, but wouldn't hold charge (even after longer
rides at higher revs, etc) and therefore wouldn't restart. Batteries
can also "regenerate" some charge after cooling/resting, and this
