Hi, it looks pretty similar to my 92 Nighthawk I've got in bits, when look at the 83 550 parts diagram. Has the same type of seal then the needle bearing, and that's it. Looking at it I can see how wear on the shaft and needle bearing could allow oil to get through easily. Hope this helps. On S

It definitely _should_ be fixed, but unless it's leaking steadily it can hold off until warmer weather. A leaking seal is compromised, and potentially a vector for dirt to get back into that transmission, with much more difficult to repair results. Whereabouts are you located, perhaps one of our o

Another common place for a motor to leak is the seal behind the front drive sprocket. Assuming you don't have a shaft drive model here. Leaks in this area are hard to diagnose until they get severe. Like Kyle said the shifter seal is a likely culprit and is usually next to the drive sprocket under

Only place it could leak is from is an O ring where the starter fits into the engine. When in doubt, pull it out. Disconnect the battery and the lead at the starter, remove two bolts that hold the starter and pull it out. I've never seen one leak but there is always a first time. Have you cleane
