Leaving Riverhead this morning, my first destination was scheduled to be
RMSP, but as I approached Ocean Parkway, and finding the draw-bridge up, I

Bridge, H.Bays and the Post La. Bridge, Quogue, along with the necessary
detour east to the Shinnicock Inlet. A most enjoyable couple of hours
without much wind, a lot of sunshine...and a King Eider

Arriving a tad late (1010) at mostly frozen over Merritt's Pond in
Riverhead, a sizable flock of Canada Geese were still in evidence, although
I'm fairly sure that some of the roosting flock must have left earlier.
There were 3 notable geese, 2 hybrids and the bird referred to on the
subject line

Someone in the past (probably Gil Raynor) told me in this type of habitat
to keep your binoculars on a hunting Marsh Hawk (it's name back then...aka
N.Harrier) because you never know what it will "put up"...today it was my
FOS Short-eared Owl ! Although a pair these have been reported recently in
Area* - Field on left side of entrance road off of Rt. 25, about 2/3 of way
to the 1st Riverhead Building Supply building.

Hoping to catch up with some of the recent "specials" seen in the Riverhead
area, I spent ~ 3 hours touring the sod farms, and other agricultural
fields. I did find 2 moderately sized Canada flocks, with only 1 Snow Goose
to show for it...but I'm not complaining...with it being my FOS, which
