I'm seeing very long boot times (6+ minutes) which seem to be down
to slow SCSI bus detection, and I can't see the console anymore if I ssh
to the ILOM (although the KVM java app works fine).

Solaris 8? Why would you still be using 8? Go download the most recent
Express release and give that a try. These lists (including opensolaris-help)
are geared towards OpenSolaris, the open source

Sure, but the schema will have to be influenced by what the IETF SYSLOG
WG ends up doing w.r.t. structured messages.
