All you can do is try to get the latest drivers for
your sound card. If that doesn't work you'll have to
wait till you get xp, or try a different sound card.

Skype is supposed to reset those settings for mic as
the recording source. Maybe you have a conflict with
total recorder or something.

Audition is more accessible than cool edit. Adobe
bought out cool edit and came out with adobe audition.
The manual is long and more confusing than gold wave

You might try attenuator cord, but I tried that with
my NLS player and didn't get any audio through to

I've never been able to check more than 1 box at a
time. If I check stereo mix, then the mic becomes
unchecked, and vise versa. A friend of mine told me
you could use winamp or media player to listen to the
mp3 while you sing, then mix the tracks after.
