Funny that's what the Spotmatic F metering circuit was supposedly designed

I wouldn't bet on that, most analog meters were not completely
linear devices and could use a bit of recalibration after a
change in operating voltage. If we used higher voltage and
regulated the voltage down to the desired level, I'd be willing
to trust it. But early metering circuits seldom, i
That's a great reason for not buying any batteries at all for
your H3.
But, $30 should not deter others from using their camera's built

tend to piss away, or smoke more than that. Just depends on the
individual's priorities, I guess.
I sometimes prefer using a handheld meter. I, too, was turned off by the
$30 price for that adapter. Whenever I use my classic H3 Pentax I have my
trusty handheld meter. True, it uses a battery, but a 9-volt battery, very
available. I like to use incident metering because I have much better

I don't like kludges, either, and you're right. Kludges have a

You could do exactly the same with the MZ-S. If you simply
1) turn it on,
2) turn the aperture ring,
3) turn the main dial to get shutter speed (which can be viewed on top

4) focus on manual,
you would have exactly the same number of movements as a Spotmatic.
