Interesting. At f/8, the DA14mm's aperture is less than 2mm in
diameter where the FA16-45 is at 2mm or greater. Perhaps you're
seeing the onset of diffraction, reducing the resolution. How do
they compare at f/5.6?
I normally set aperture between f/4 and f/5.6 with the 14mm.

my DA 14 is noticeably less sharp than my DA 16-45, and that is about the
same as my FA* 80-200. i haven't shot enough yet with my FA* 28-70, but
given what i have seen from others, i expect it to be equally good.

to my eyes, there is a lot of noise in the "without NR" that would have to
be removed in Photoshop. lightning at that distance looks a lot like noise
to simplistic algorithms that mostly are focused on eliminating hot pixels.
i wonder if any other DSLR would far better. i think without smarter n

Yes, their marketing dept. needs a good kick up the ass, it's all the more
enjoyable when they just release it and you think "did

Perhaps you misunderstand ... That original photo IS in color.
It was an unbelievably hazy day.
Rendering RGB to monochrome I do after I get the cropping the
way i want it. It's often the largest part of my image
processing work.

But you'll never know if Pentax are going to release a full-frame digital
unless they do. You will never know that they won't as they are unlikely to
state so.

If I'm carrying around a hard disk with several months of images on it the very
last thing I want it to be doing
I have the Compact Drive PD6A 60gb unit and am quite happy with it's
speed and usage.

Thanks, Juan.
It was captured with the Panasonic FZ10 in full color ... The
original is what you see when you click on the image, pre all
significant processing work other than rotation and a small
amount of cropping to get the verticals where I wanted them.
When I first saw it on the computer,
I can recommend ARCOS GMINI with 20 GB Harddisk and Compact Flash Card
Reader.
Ist very small and handy. And it also plays music...
