The *ist-D definitely did it. In fact it pretty much had to; with FAT16 formatting of the media cards you could only have a maximum of 512 files in a single folder. FAT16 had a maximum partition size of 2GB, but that wasn't a problem back in those days; it was only towards to the end of its life
