Hi Frank,
Thanks for looking and commenting!
The sky on the last shot is actually a bank of fog coming against me.
The scene was back-lit, but not by a sunset. I think the paleness is
quite accurate, but I agree with you; it would have been a more

Hi gang,
What would you consider to be a fair price for a Pentax SMC 500/4.5?
I traced one down in Australia for AUD 1800. That's a bit far off, considering
the weight of the thing, but is that price within ballpark range?

FWIW, the SMCT 500/4.5 is identical except for the mount and may be founf
much cheaper. It's up to you to decide how much it is worth to avoid using

I have the SMC 500/4.5 K mount version of the SMC Takumar 500/4.5, and I'm
very happy with it. AFIK, it is exactly the same as the Tak version, and
since it has a manual aperture (not controlled by the body), it makes little
difference which you get. I use my SMC 500/4.5 straight up
the
K version is limited to K bodies only.

Hi all,
there was a thread on Photo.net a little while ago and also here (I
think) about the possibilty of adapting a 500/4.5 to medium format. The
removable mount tube has made it relatively easy to convert to other 35mm
mounts, so the idea of making a MF mount seems obvious. In comparison
Is the mount part (a few inches long) of the Takumar 4.5 or Pentax

Is it the same as the mount tube found on the Takumar (or Pentax) 1000/8?

The problem was that there was no access to that; the lens itself wouldn't
