When my wireless acts up, it has been due to another wi-fi router in the
area broadcasting on the same channel. A hard reboot would clear it up for
10 minutes, maybe. I changed the channel and now the routers work well. Both
my D-Link and LinkSys routers do this to me.

Dump the Linksys and look for a Netgear box. I had exactly the same issues with
a Linksys and no matter what it would
lock up on our Cablevision system. So one day after the 5th or so reset (for
the day) I bounced it off the wall and
bought a Netgear box and haven't ha

Hmm. Hadn't thought about that.
I just had the wife check, our wireless phones run on 5.8ghz.

Thanks for all the input, folks.Seems like everything else - YMMV.
Sounds like Jack and a few others have been down the exact same road.
Sometimes flashing the unit helps, sometimes it doesn't. I just don't have
time for things that don't work right now. I've changed the SID, channel,

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that microwave ovens and 2.4 Ghz phones will
impede WiFi signals. I have tested that with a WiSpy Spectrum An

I understand the really old units were susceptible to
permenant damage if updating the flash failed for
certain reasons.
A friend of mine who is a real pitbull with getting
things replaced, locked horns with Linksys and still
couldn't get a replacement.

It could be. I installed a WAP11 on 3.26.2002 and updated to the 54G

I just flashed that original 54G to DD-WRT, probably about the dozenth

Making sure the router and MODEM are plugged into a

Some old buildings or new developments have awful

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that microwave ovens and 2.4 Ghz phones will
impede WiFi signals. I have tested that with a WiSpy Spectrum Analyzer
unit, and it is amazing how much bouckground signal noise exists in the
2.4Ghz "unlicensed" spectrum. It can all caus
