Acting on a different tip I came across, I did a make mrproper
and a make oldconfig. That seemed to do the trick. I'd assumed that
the source tree wasn't entirely clean prior to the RPM being built,
but maybe it *was* the make xconfig instead.

offer an RPM, but installing was fairly easy.
I think I had more problems installing the berkeley DB
than anything else.

to run that md5sum from the boot: prompt at the installation of linux, don't you? Also
