I would agree with that since during an outside running session on dry fuel, with just the ocillating engine running unloaded from the boiler the pressure would not go past 25psi. I am thinking about making a meths burner for mine or switching it to a gas burner which I can buy at Coles. I tend

I have built the Vertical boiler, their occilating engine, and force pump. All satisfying projects. The boiler was a fun project and a good first time boiler. The boiler comes with soft solder plumbing type silver solder, which is OK since the endplates are rivited and the fire tubes are swaged.

Ruby Burner

I made a radiant heater modification to my Ruby burner last weekend. I was able to scrounge some 50x50 SS mesh and experimented on the Ruby burner. I first attached the mesh with some .010 SS wire but this would not fit when trying to put the burner back in the boiler, so I stripped out a few st

If you can find out how many watts of power it takes to generate enough steam to power a Loco then you can figure out what voltage you will need. You would want to keep the current draw down so as to minimize the amount of arcing on the wheels and track just the same as regular electric trains. So

Sorry, Vance but you have been misinformed. I previously read the report and reviewed it again. Five people were killed. The crown sheet was as thin as 1/16" and it was estimated it should have been 5/16". A post accident test of the modern safety valve showed it did not open at all. Seals were

It's the MK48 Torpedo. Not really steam, no water involved. The engine is an external combustion type, but uses the gas from the ignition of the fuel to provide the pressure. How do I know this, spent way too much time in the ocean submerged. Plenty of steam back aft spinning the turbines. St

I am using sterno in the Elliott Bay Steam Launch since I have not found enough room for a fuel tank. I have loaded a couple of large syringes with sterno prior to an outing and at ten minutes I pull the boat in and pump the syringe into the fire box to extend the run time. The sterno will flow

For my railway I used 12"x 12" concrete piers for the base of the 4x4s to keep them off of the ground. They are sold at Home Depot for about $4 each. Just dig a hole and place them in , back fill, and you are ready to start framing. I used 4x4 posts and 2x4s to each post. 1x 6 for the decking.
