Honestly, it's been a few years since I set up my Thunderbird. So this
will be a total guesswork. But for nothing else, make sure the settings
in the View menu are correct.
Under Toolbars, make sure only the Menu bar, and Status bar are checked.
All other features should be unchecked.

I am trying to help a friend of mine reinstall Thunderbird. She now has
email coming and going, but there is no simple way to get to the inbox.
How does one get rid of the screen that has all of the junk in it like
filter messages, write messages, search bing, etc. and get to the inbox

Hi. alt+m for the message menu and then h to get to the attachments.
then right arrow on the one you want to get a menu of open save or delete.

loading the message and that helps. Otherwise, press up arrow or page
