Get a Canon IS lens on a SLR, the ones I have are quite good and mixed
with a f-stop of 2.8 it means plenty of light so fast shutter speeds
are easier. Only problem is weight, the latest kit weights a few kilos
1.7Kg IRRC just for the lens.

road it means that they can put in traffic lights and roundabouts. If

4x4 are for the crap drivers, 2wd is the best. In the UK there are several
reliabilty trials that use these so called 4x4 tracks for competitions.
I think we need a tag that suggests the highway is either rough terrain or
hard going and a decent off road vehicle is strongly advised. 4x4 only does

in a simple manner,
ie to filter businesses by operator, name then edit them enmass. There
are many businesses already in OSM that just need extra info added,
typing errors corrected, or just to have operator info added.

Maybe an offshoot of osm should be a open directory business directory. That
people locate their business on a osm then it should be search able via the
main page. As I keep saying it also would add extra navagation points such
as postal codes.

Is there a reason why the index on Name Finder is out of date? On the
search page it says last update Jan 9, 2009.
From the wiki[1] I get the idea it updated daily, but stuff I added a
week ago, and several months ago is not showing up.

Not all websites are not as well designed as OSM. Often when you click
print you get 2 blank pages plus 3 with the adverts on them and 1 page
of the map, cut right in half on the area you wanted to see.

as a gcse subject I was disappointed
we never did much with maps. None of the students could read an os
map.
There are different target groups, primary school, secondary,
college/uni so we need targeted plans for each. If we get colleges
involved then we may breed new osm editors.

When I map my village this is how I would do it. But as you say very
complicated and will take time to get done. Once we are to the level
of putting houses in then I guess that can been seen as a good thing
as we would be getting closer to the OS maps with the amount of
detail.

I don't have the geek powers to make a database driven site that this
could all be stored on and edited by other users.

used to make a Pub guide, or restaurant guide if people are going to
have to put in information about a location it maybe worth putting in
as much as we can find out.

some public art is only there for a short wile and could make
the maps outdated. I sometimes use statues as a reference point wile
navigating people around towns. For example, Turn left at the statue
of George Formby and head towards the beach.

I have a Zumo 550 and I did upload some track data but I would like to
know if there is an app that would split a large gpx file up into the
different journeys I have done. Because some are just of me testing it

What's being discussed here is the token used internally to OSM to say
this is *this* kind of thing, rather than something that's rendered as
a label on the map. There's an established convention for having
multiple language versions of a place's name. See
well, the confusion just begins to start ;-) A keep is not
corrispondent to a burg, it is corispondent to a donjon, maybe to a
bergfried in German. A keep is part of a castle, not the whole. If
you continue to say, that burg and chateau (=schloss) has roughly the
same meaning, you're still
done some basic edits but there is still
loads I need to learn. I have joined the newbie list so I ask my daft
qestions there.
