OK - thanks everyone. Forcing the firmware back to 7.5.2 r8837 seems to
have fixed it. I had to connect a USB keyboard to get enough control
over the UI to do this.
I don't know if it was actually the latest 7.6 firmware that caused
this? When I have more time, I'l try updating back to that and

I finally found the problem. Many thanks for all the hints.
I try to describe it a bit more in detail, maybe it helps someone.
The solution was as mentioned above, formatting the HDD on windows.
I did it on a mac via bootcamp on windows XP. But that was not all.

the reason I wanted to avoid running a long cable from my Hifi to the

I just got a Touch and want to leave it on 24/7 on Last.fm...problem is
I don't want my computer on 24/7 but once the computer goes to sleep
the audio to my speakers cuts out...the Touch itself is still on and is
playing Last.fm though...I have Last.fm set up on mysqueezebox.com too

I don't have an answer to your connection issue, but I can say I have a
similar setup and I don't experience such issues.
My Touch & Radio & Boom all connect via WiFi without issue, and I do
unplug them all to move them around the house.
I simply plug them back in and they are streaming again in 2
Hide SSID is uneccasry/futile it does not protect from anything only
make things more incompatible, the AP still broadcast it's SSID in some
other way that could be easily picked up (google), it is not really
meant to be hidden and actually breaks the standard to do so.

Well, the good news is that the odd combination of the latest 7.6 SBS +
r8837 (from 7.5.2) has mended my Touch - it is working perfectly
again.
The bad news is that any recent version of the 7.6 firmware semi-bricks
it again.

Have you considered downsampling the files offline, say using foobar2000
or dbpoweramp, and then just play the converted files?
Some people might say that you are not then comparing like with like,
but comparing the quality of the downsampling.

Yes I have read several posts stating that there is nothing to gain but

I installed SC on my computer, and the Touch did respond much faster and
I experienced no slow down.
I do think that some of the slowness I experienced with the SB when
running off a SC from a slow system can be improved significantly.
For example, when I press 'shuffle', 'repeat', or do volume
I would use heatshrink tubing over all of your soldered connections
inside the case as an additional safety measure - to make them
mechnically secure.

I would do it both ways and make a choice after a good listen both way.
What I am saying is use the Touch RCA outs for a full week, then go
Coax into the DAC for a week. Then decide which one has the sound you
prefer.

Unfortunately its not easy to do. What is displayed on the Touch is not
just simple text, there are graphics elements and touch sensitivity
areas as well. All of these have to be coordinated, you can't just
change one.

A couple more things. Make sure you mount it as shown in the picture.
The frame is the heatsink and it needs to be properly oriented to cool
properly. Make sure the box is high enough internally for that. The
spec says its 123.7mm high, make sure the box can hold that.

I know this is probably subjective. I have already installed the server
software on my QNAP NAS and will hook up Touch to my home network
(ethernet).
My plan is to use the touch's L/R analogue output to my pre/power amp
setup. Should I set the Touch's output volume at 50% so I can use my
pre-
100% and then use the preamps level would be better.
50% is to little , sbs uses a 24bit digital volume control so it's
quite good, but 50% would be to close for comfort.
100% if you have a volume controll in the preamp this would maximise
snr ratio on the Touch.
I'm not sure of the spec re out
I don't remember where, but I think I read that TinySBS is just SBS
running in a limited mode or something to that effect. So is it
possible to add the capability for SBS running on a PC to scan a USB HD
as TinySBS would, write the database info, and have TinySBS use that
info when that USB HD is
There will be a review of the Touch in the October Issue of Stereophile
magazine for anyone interested in a pro reviewers take on it.
