You must have some idea - everyone who has a sizeable/important
collection knows exactly how many tracks they have... they are
(rightly) paranoid about backups!
If it is 500GB of FLAC then about 20.000 tracks

Can your USB HDD be self powered? Relying on the Touch for bus power to
larger USB drives can be glitchy.

What is your country setting in Squeeze Server? Does it match your

Failing that, how are you listening - if you are listening via

You can't connect a Hard Drive directly to a Touch. Only a USB device
as in Thumb Drive, USB Stick, or USB Drive. It has to have a USB
interface.
When it comes to USB Drives, if using a
Just a thought, but did you leave enough free space so that the database

Are you sure that the Touch's built-in Squeezebox Server (TinySBS) is
running? Also, do you have any other sources connected to the Touch's
USB port? For music libraries the Touch will only recognize one locally
attached source, either USB or SD, but not both.

I seriously think you should always know exactly how many files you

to lose any part of it.
Even with a rock-solid backup regime, you will sooner or later want to
know that all of your files are indeed accessible via the
