Smart Gain for 5 years. ReplayGain tags have been applied either through
foobar2000 or dbPoweramp when ripping CDs. I have been extremely pleased
with the results.

On a Touch the file is located here
/etc/squeezecenter/prefs/server.prefs
Enable remote login in the Touch settings then log on to it using SSH
via a terminal on Linux or OSX or a terminal app on windows (like putty)
.
Edit the file with the vi editor

Gary, I'm curious...how did you arrive at 75% volume? I recall a

yes. and if your FLAC, mp3, m4a, etc. files do not have RG tags,
foobar2000 is a very good program for adding this tag i
What the smart volume does is effectively moving the volume up and down
.
But as their is no more bits and not more than 100% volume ( there is no
11 like in spinal tap ).
So it must equalise around a lower base level , so many tunes are played
lower a very few louder but the net result should t

Probably not , at least not as much as manipulating the file .
But it require that the file has replay gain tags otherwise LMS won't
now the proper level.

I'd be more than shocked if you would notice it, as long as your digital
volume on the player is at 75% or higher to start with. I really like
smartgain option with my RG tags.

Hi Triode
This weekend I updated the firmware of my SB Touch, firstly with TT3,

the required changes regarding the file types, ensuring that PCM is set

I'm sure I've seen something about this previously on this forum. I've
EAC'd all my CDs to FLAC using the same settings each time but some
albums when played are much, much quieter than others. Is there a way
to equalise the output volume so I don't have to keep doing it manually?
