Thats right. Now I recall. It is a pack system as you describe.
Cinnamon shouldn't be a problem to use. It's based on Gnome 3. The additional
proprietary pieces are third party and not developed by the project. Removing
them should be easy.

Okay, I'm not sure if this is a bug with drivers for my soundcard or not, but
it seems like it could be. I've narrowed down a way to make mumble work

screen there is a check box for "Positional Audio". You un-check t
Thanks - the gettext solution in the linked thread worked nicely.
It's a bit hacky but it gets the job done. Cheers!
I love Debian on the server although it has major shortcomings on the
desktop. I think the main advantage to Ubuntu is stability, desktop support,
and packages that are newer than in Debian.
It would be nice if there was a Debian flavor geared toward the desktop that
was more up to date. Un
Hmm, I was thinking similar thoughts yesterday on my walk. My thoughts below:
Advantages
* Debian focuses more on freedom than Ubuntu (as you already pointed out).
This would mean less work removing non-free software, recommendations and
occasional branding.
* Debian and Ubuntu have many s

Once both the offline and the online system have apt-offline installed, you
can install/upgrade anything in three commands (remembering to plug the
removable device before each of them): one of the online system (item 8), one
on the online system (item 10) and one back on the offline system (
Like Ubuntu's LTS, Debian roughly releases a new version every two years.
Could Trisquel come back to it (even though gNewSense wants to do the same)?
Debian is more stable, raises less freedom issues and is more in sync with
the free software development community. I mean Ubuntu basically is

It does look tedious written out like that although I'm sure your spot on
that it is easy with GUI.
Yes- I'll have to look into it the next time somebody needs a program for
'offline' installation.
Thanks for the info, icarolongo :)

I don't know. It is interesting that you have installed unity though.
First off- this definitely has my full support.
I didn't have a chance to read the meeting notes. I wish I hadn't missed this

being an advocate of this approach. In any case the meeting does sum up

I did not even know this project existed... but I do not see the point in our

Out of curiosity, which web browser are you using?
And, did you install any addon's/extensions?

Hmm there was a person having a similar problem last year[1]. Nobody else is
having this issue, so it appears to be a bug or you have accidentally
misconfigured something.
Can you try using Safe Mode? (see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode)
Also try following these instructions:

Right on! I like this idea.
>"Microsoft, who is basically the king of fighting against not just free
software, but the weaker "open source" as well."
Microsoft does, however, maintain two free software licenses. Still, both of
them are certified GPL-incompatible by the FSF. (Even when Microsoft does

It's because Microsoft licenses didn't gave Microsoft Research permission to
use images and videos of their own games :P
The video works without extensions, by the way (fallbacks to HTML5)
I always liked the idea of limiting to LTS versions and do backports when
possible. I think that this can benefit a documentation/translation project
since all contributors can focus on the same version and have more time to
work on it.
I found this video accidentally:

I suggest watching it, and other YouTube videos, with the UnPlug extension

Hi.
When I installed a GNU/Linux Trisquel I don't have a many troubles with daily

You've never heard of this? I think there are a few others too.
It isn't perfect though as it won't let you test (or did not in the past)
interactive content. Much more of the web is interactive today than it ever
was in the past.
To summarize the meeting:
* Yes, we will do LTS only.
* We will open a user repository so the community can submit their backports

Who said it does? I said *Wine* Internet Explorer:
http://wiki.winehq.org/iexplore
Technically, I suppose they just call it "iexplore", after the name of the
executable.
I did not want to steer anyone to running non-free software. That's the last
thing I'd do, I really admire the philosophy Richard Stalman developed and I
believe he is the greatest thinker of our time.
But as Mark wrote, "I want to use Windows because I need Internet Explorer to

There has been some debate on this topic recently, but hear me out:
1. In April 2013, all versions of Trisquel prior to 6 will lose their
support. No more package updates or security fixes will be made available
from Ubuntu for Trisquel to use. Trisquel 4 (based on Ubuntu 10.04) loses

Running Internet Explorer (a proprietary application) on Wine does not turn
it "free".
I am not arguing against it though... as long as the goal is the development
of something "right" (not SaaS for example).
Running a nonfree program personally isn't unethical because it is you who is
being victimized, but steering someone towards nonfree software is.
I'm no web developer, but I'm a software developer. Unfortunately, Wine is
too limited for cx_Freeze (a free program which "freezes" Python program
Again: the basic 'apt-offline' package does not depend on anything that is

will take care of dependency resolution)... including apt-offlin
Wow, that's a neat idea. Never heard of browsershots before!
Still, somewhere, someone has to run IE in order to make a screenshot. Won't
help much if the site being tested is still in development and has to be made
IE-compatible before release...
If you develop a webpage, you need to test it with the browser, that is being
used by your target group. So if you want to test it with IE, you either have
to install Windows in order to do that, or go the route I described.
Do you think that's unethical to test a webpage with IE?
It is not manual: apt-offline "does" the three steps I listed. In other
words, the user only runs three commands (the first one on the offline
system, the second one on the online system and the third one back on the
offline system) and needs not care about the work normally achieved by
apt
I clearly didn't follow on thing about the above. The way your describing
this to me sounds like it is a manual process. Why should the user have to
list all of the dependencies of a package? The whole advantage of the modern
packaging system is to avoid that. Doing it manually would drive an
Hi,
I can not comment using Blender on Trisquel running Noveau. In general I
would not go for the "double medium price" solution (2x 9500GT). A GF 9800GT
or even better a 9800GTX will provide a much better performance than a
doubled 9500GT plus the fact that open source drivers most likely
