So basically the FSF would rather spend its resources in being political than
give a helping hand to a distribution that follows their ideals. Shouldn't
the deployment and continued growth of free software that you can run freely
on your server carry some weight? Especially in modern times

that used the H.264 video codec.
I have to agree with the original poster. This distribution peaked around
2010/2011 and hasn't been the same since. It looks worse than before (which
can be fixed with MATE if they still want a classic look) and communication
between Ruben and the community is at an all time low. He works
"The fsf receives every year a substantial amount of money as an income."
Ha! I don't know which FSF you're looking at. $450,000 (okay, they ended at
$461,000 at their last fundraiser)? For a staff of 12 people? That works out
to about $38,416 per person. That's not a lot in the U.S. And

This is all stuff we've heard before, discussion about it goes nowhere.

Unfortunately I have to say all of you (except Mzee) have failed to see the
main *source* of the problem. The problem is not why Ruben invest less time
on the project than before, the main problem is *why does Trisquel depend on
one person?*
I suppose we need something like *Trisquel Users
Teaching about freedom is not much use if there is no free OS that people can
actually install.
It is sensible to support the distro with the biggest userbase, which
trisquel is.
Some people of other distros might be offended by that or feel kinda down,
but that is a minor issue compared to
Also, I suggest you to edit the limits on /etc/login.conf, (specially the
heap to 16M and the RAM usage cap to your RAM size), otherwise browsers like
iridium will crash.
Then, run as root: cap_mkdb /etc/login.conf as root and reboot.

Today I could dedicate most of my day to Trisquel and fixed some problems
with the repo management that were preventing updates to be pushed. I also
started to work on fixing the bugs in the Firefox > Abrowser package helper
that are preventing new versions of the browser to be published.

Thank you for your development efforts I very much enjoy playing this game!

by some distros that are manteined by a single person in spare time???

Hi everyone. I'm really new to Trisquel and to Free Software way of life, but
during these two weeks with Trisquel Mini I really felt that sense of freedom
pople on the internet were talking about. I really like this distribution not
just because it has 100% free software, but also because
Yea, it's possible.
We're forking the OpenBSD ports tree as soon as a get a CVS server set up and
everything.
With this fork there'll be focus on patching things like this.
'Till then, well, perhaps you should go with Midori or Netsurf.
Teach about free software and campaigning for various issues is also
important. And how do the other FSF-endorsed distros feel over that if the
FSF were to say "we'll hire someone to work on Trisquel but sorry Parabola

That would be one.

On a trisquel post, there is some writing about trisquel being not updated
likely because of lack of resources. I think trisquel is to small and to
little and therefore a non effective system. I could ask fsf the following
question. I do not because I do not want to bother them, if you can
It's not the money nor the time it's the concept that makes this allive, it's
because of the tremendous importance of the concept that we are here
discussing this.
Can we imagine a world without freedom???
The concept is very very important!
But i'll say no more because I practically just
Hey Trisquel's community !
Perhaps it's time for our community to take it's own responsibility on the
Trisquel project.
Perhaps it's time for the main developer to give the community more place in
development of Trisquel.
Rather than take more people from FSF or another organization, we
What is more important for free software than having a 100% free system?
If the fsf spends money on anything, shouldn't the trisquel project be on the
very top of the list, or at least far up there`?
Maybe instead of complaining to Ruben, we should complain to the Fsf.
ReTux 1.0 has finally been released:

Can the FSF afford to? They also have limited resources and much that needs
doing on their own. Have you looked at their financial statements? They're
very lean. It's amazing that they accomplish as much as they do. It's a
testament to the quality and dedication of the people they hire.
So the problem is actually rather the way the fsf sets its priorities.
In my opinion they *should* use their money for something important as one of
the very few truly free distributions out there.
Nobody can blame Ruben - I'm rather surprised that he is able to maintain the
project at all if
ok thanks so for example if i get the line
video 40960 1 i915
that means that driver i915 is used and installed?
Why can't i mirror displays then?
Coudn't be possible to just modify Seamonkey?
SeamonKey is much faster than Icecat, it provides nearly the sames features,
WebGL included, and
for that reason it will work better on non high-end machines.
Yea, as metalanderish said-- Seamonkey recommends proprietary software.
Another notable abscence is Firefox, which does the same. I'm basing a port
of Icecat off of the Firefox port, though.
Some dependencies on Mozilla.
You could try 'lsmod' to see the status of modules in the kernel.

That's a good piece of advice. I'll try that.
Just get bsd.rd, place it on /, and boot from it from the boot boot prompt:
b bsd.rd
Then choose Upgrade .
Yes, it's quite an improvement. I haven't yet tried that but I will.

Go on IRC #trisquel and tell quidam you want to be one.
I will translate this for it seems a legit and sensible question.

LibertyBSD 5.9 is out. http://libertybsd.net/

ok and will driver related problems appear in boot log?
how many files are there for boot log? two or more?!
Try lspci.

It has meny options (try -v or -k).

Hello!
I have a very similar problem.
So:
1)how do we check if a driver is installed or not?
2)how do we tell kernel which driver to use at boot time?
Thanks!
I added Gnome to OpenBSD/LibertyBSD. It's pretty easy to do.
