We acquired some new printers and are busy installing them at our
Various sites. We are just having one problem If I run a report from TCL
to the printer, it does not do a form feed at the end of the print out,
And subsequently, the new report starts printing on the same page.
Any advice?
L#10 is different from 10L.
#10 is a shorthand way of specifying ## which, in the FMT function, is a
mask, limiting the output to the leftmost 10 characters in the data. (Leftmost
because the justification is L.)
10L, on the other hand, does not impose any restriction on the length of
Its probably not a good idea. I would just do something like ED VOC
SAVEDLISTS;FILE SL. This way you can have what ever nickname you want for
it. There are things that Universe does with SAVEDLISTS. So, it would be
easier to just create an alias.

Did suggest that. It has been set since, but on some reports it still does

The strangest of this to me, is that before we had Lexmark 2381 on the same

Now that we have replaced it with the 2480/2481 problems.

Rob,
Concerning your request to convert SIMPLE
We at Binary Star have a number of conversion routines, including a way to
convert SIMPLE to a modern and easily supportable
I wouldn't rename them - as suggested a number of times - just create a
synonym for your use.
They likely have such *ugly* names so that they won't conflict with any
files you want to create (or already existed in your app that you port to
U2).

Just
The Files are historic. As in PRIMOS
Rename as you will. The VOC entries are required (HOLD, SAVEDLISTS,
PH, etc.) but the underlying 'actual' file\directory name can be changed
at will.

We had a QMS Kiss laser printer (mid 1980s). One of it's standard features
was that it would not eject a 'blank' page. It was considered a 'paper
saving feature'. Very annoying if you forget to leave the eject option on.

I don't believe you want to rename them at the OS level as I'm sure there
are still plenty of places within the product where those *ugly*
ampersand-ed names are hard coded and not accessed via a VOC pointer. You
might find yourself with a very non-working product.
I know for years there

You make an excellent point. IN that case, you should insert [AD] in the *body*

I don't have a spare one at the moment, but I've found eBay is a great

But, just in case someone else finds themselves struggling with a similar problem,
I've found that many DDS4 drives will read uncompressed data written in the DDS2 or

Hi Eugene,
You could try running PTERM CASE NOINVERT at the TCL prompt and see if
this improves things. I have this in my LOGIN VOC entries because I
don't like the way the case inverts when you move from unix to universe.
This will stop that. Otherwise try the help screen for PTERM and see if
Eugene,
What you need to do is in your login paragraph add the line
PTERM CASE NOINVERT
That should solved it for you. By default UV has the case invert on.

I am running UV9.6 on HPUX 11 and am wondering if there is somewhere that I can see

dictionary items. I know for instance that
I am curious about people's experience:
1. Do your end users like or dislike this case-inverting behavior?
I think most dislike it.
2. How about programmers and techies?
3. Do you let users configure it for themselves?
By the way, Stuart meant paragraph, not phrase.

I would not suggest renaming the directories. Better to create a

Dave,
I can assure you it is not only MVQuery that this occurs in, I
run [EMAIL PROTECTED] and use a Redback Application to build query's. Large data
extraction is a simply awful response. I also find myself with a
crashed browser session and a process that is still writing to the file.
As part of our server strategy we are investigating possibly running
UniVerse on Linux. This seems to pose a number of questions re the type of
Linux to use.
I have obtained 10.1.1 for RedHat but our Oracle team is leaning towards

Sara,
Just to let you know, we built and tested that version of 10.0.8 on the

I beg to differ there. We use Redback and move HUGE amounts from the
