Installing the proprietary driver with patch, everything works normally.
Installing the nvidia-current package, install goes OK, but trying to start kde
results in the login loop -- the greeter comes up, login, the splash screen
starts, then jumps back to the greeter. Note that this does NOT

I checked syslog and it did not show the same message as in this report. X
didn't consume all CPU either. All I saw whas that the driver crashed and a
reboot or standby/hibernate fixes it for the time being.

touch-pad multi-finger features do not work
scratch my previous post please. The problem continues to plague my
system and I had to both delete the symlink libGL.so.1 again and
switch to the nv driver in order to start X and KDE properly this

I added Alberto's PPA (above) to the apt-get sources and installed it
successfully. Upon reboot, there wasn't a change and the nVidia X Server
Utility said that I wasn't using the nVidia drivers. Ran sudo nvidia-
xconfig --sli=On and then sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
Everything is working fine

As was the case for Hardy, the vesa driver does a much better job of detecting

I was able to find a copy of xserver-xorg-input-kbd_1.4.0-1_powerpc.deb
on a Debian mirror server. I installed the .deb with dpkg, booted into
recovery mode to generate an xorg.conf, edited the xorg.conf as

Same symptoms on a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop, 2.4Ghz, 512MB RAM.
10.04 Live CD and online upgrade from 9.1 to 10.04 both have the same
results - monitor goes blank, then to standby. Changing RAM
configuration does not fix it.

Received an error message that asked for a bug report.

I have this bug, reported as duplicate bug #557814.
I have found that the screen shivering is still present in:
$ uname -a
Linux s-desktop 2.6.34-020634rc6-generic #020634rc6 SMP Fri Apr 30 09:08:46 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
with an r350 -ati driver (more info is at the linked bug report).

Tested on 64-bit Lucid
Upgraded kernel to linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic. (Restart required)
Installed package Nvidia-current (195.36.65-Oubuntu3). (Restart required)
From a terminal:
1. sudo service gdm stop
2. sudo nvidia-xconfig --sli=on
3. startx
Drivers load and no further conflicts
I launched synaptic and selected the following packages for reinstall:
xorg
xserver-xorg-core
xserver-xorg
synaptic reinstalled these packages without any problem, so I tried to
collect the report once again.
apport-collect 574152

I can confirm linuxcentre (his machine is the same as mine) and
kshitijmmmec. The crashes keep going on and sometimes I get the very
frequently others I can be using the computer for hours without
problems. Vesa proves stable.

Today, I have booted with Windows 7 and I saw my touchpad was disabled in
Windows. So I enabled it.
Tonight I have booted in Ubuntu Lucid and I tried to use the touchpad and it
has worked!
It is really strange...
