Regarding the screen corruption
I have been able to reproduce that a few times in a gnome-shell session
but it's not specific to any one task. It "crashed/froze" twice just
looking for logs and once again while launching Firefox. OTOH I can use
the classic session w/o a problem - in fact I'm streaming the nightly

Perhaps oddly (perhaps not oddly at all) I decided to reboot and select

After installing a fresh Lubuntu i386 alpha3 and upgrading only 'libmtp-
common' and 'libmtp9' I get a very slow boot - I mean 3 to 4 minutes!

an xserver bug but I lack the tech knowledge to proceed so any help

BTW this is the box that I use for testing both ubiquity and d-i so it's
really important to me. I'd really like to test all of the recent
installer changes on bare metal ;^)

OK, did you look at those pics in comment #16?
Lots of font config errors followed by:
Starting Mount network filesystems
Stopping Mount network filesystems
The third pic in that set is the easiest to read but it only shows about
the left half of the screen.

Just out of curiosity I tried installing Lubuntu QQ alpha 3 on the
aforementioned hardware. All went fine other than one totally unrelated
ubiquity bug.
After installing I applied the available updates, I did NOT enable
"proposed", but then it's no longer able to boot into that old (circa

Lars, I'm not sure this is related but I'm unable to even boot Lubuntu

I did some more fiddling and I'm fairly well convinced that this is
actually a 'gnome-screensaver' bug.
I first booted into an Lubuntu Precise and installed 'gnome-desktop-
environment' which I know is Gnome version 3.0 rather than the Gnome
version 3.2 + bits of 3.4 that Ubuntu Precise uses. Boot
Just downgrading 'gnome-screensaver' was easy but also did no good :^(
I'll see if I can figure out how to switch to 'xcreensaver'.

Those of us effected definitely need to share some notes. I'm using a
simple 2-port KVM switch with 2 sets of hardware:

Forgot to mention this does currently also effect Ubuntu Quantal but
I've been waiting for the last bits of the new 'xorg' to pass proposed
before saying much.
