Strange - with my utterly standard config and without doing anything
special I have not had m4a issues again. I have learned to make sure I
install the restricted library before I install SBS, and things seem
to work automatically always. I just have a very few M4a albums from

I am running ubuntu 9.10 and squeezbox server Version: 7.4.2 and m4a's

I just created a custom-covert.conf file in etc/squeezeboxserver/ which
looks like this:
# Transcoding for AAC files.
# SC 7.3+
mov flc * *
# F
[faad] -w -f 2 $FILE$ | [flac] -cs

Can anyone point me to a wiki page which describes streaming .m4a files
from a debian server?

I'm burning some hours on this as well. Mine is a Gentoo SC.
Everything works except for this, so far.
Just a thought here. Aren't the new m4a files downloaded from iTunes
without DRM are supposed to be a different bitrate? I downloaded on

No it didn't. Of course, the stuff

With your suggested version of custom-convert it works, with the

The -x issues relates to the version of lame you have installed.
IIRC the developers of lame found a bug where use of -x was inverted
and this was changed between 3.96 and 3.98 I think. So the need for -x
depends on the version of lame installed.

Sorry 4mula1, I am still not having any success. I thought I might be
onto the right track when I saw that custom-convert.conf should be in

I need some help to enable m4a playback with squeezecenter in ubuntu

talk about editing your slimserver-convert.conf file.
Where is this file? Should it be squeezecenter-convert.conf? What do I

The name of the file is convert.conf and is placed in the Squeezecenter

I hope this is still valid, since I am not sure if this still works with

(transcodes ape and m4a and alac? to wav with mplayer):
Code:
ape wav * *
