select a portion of the document and turn it into a jpg file. Then, load
that jpg into your OCR software and export that into Writer.

1) Set the page size of your *document* to 8 1/2 tall by 5 1/2 wide.
You can have as many pages as you like, it doesn't have to be a multiple
of 4. OOo will sort out what should be printed next to what (eg with an
8 page document, 1 next to 8, 2 next to 7 etc).
