Thank you Ronni. The reviews are are very perplexing. To help I
have set out a spread sheet with facets listed that I am seeking. So
far I haven't got two cameras that correlate and not one with all the
key points I want!! The search continues.

Yes Lynn, the need to get a card reader is an emerging requirement
but I live in hope of being able to use USB.
Thank you

Hi Merv,
all the bells and whistles are important but ultimately the quality of
the photo is the prime importance. I found this site invaluable to
compare the quality of pictures once you have narrowed down your
selection.
Thanks Eugene. I will check it out.

Afternoon all! :)
I can recommend the whole concept of refilling toners although I
haven't, nor do it in this job.
At my previous employment we used RechargeIT in Albany who did a great
job! :) It was a great way to save a few $$ on our Brother and HP BW

On that..
The new MacBook Pros plus I'm guessing could be future machines (iMacs
etc) come with SDHC slots which is great for extracting data off your
memory cards! :)
I personally also do this anyway (Even if I have my cable) just to
save battery on the camera.

Hi Merv
I don't know what your criteria are but the most popular makes with
professionals are 1. canon 2. Nikon. maybe 3. olympus. They have the
best lenses. Pentax is not quite as good in my opinion. I assume you
are buying a DSLR and not a compact. All would be compatible with Mac
I
Hey John,
Well I know Pentax were one of 'the' cameras to have numerous years
ago so I figure they are the same in these current times.
Big fan of the Canon's as I use them at work! :)
At the moment I'm not actively looking as I've fairly broke (Got a new
(second-hand) car two weeks ago!)
Many thanks, David

I have yet to see a digital camera which has not been Mac compatible. While
As others have said, its way simpler to take out the CF or SD card from your
camera and upload the photos using a card reader.
RAW files from new cameras are sometimes not immediately compatible with Snow
Leopard, but there's normally only a short period when you might have to stick
with JPEG
Sorry to slightly go off-topic but it is amazing to compare a newer
DSLR compared to one of the first Pentax DSLR cameras (Early 90s), the
changes in quality are huge!
Can really see how compression seems to have developed over the last
10/15 years. As a result my friend now shoots in
Hi all
I think most keen amateurs shoot in raw and then either convert to
tiff or jpeg in Photoshop or in the software supplied with the camera.
iphoto accepts raw from any camera but each brand has its own raw
format.
So maybe we'd better start up a photo group to avoid being off topic
Hi Everyone
I'm using numbers at the moment and would like to know if it is possible to do
the same thing in Excel or export it to excel and have the same formulas.
I use numbers for cuttinglists in cabinetmaking.
On one sheet I have different tables...one for length ,,,one for heightone
Hi all
I loaded some pics from iPhoto to a memory stick and used a machine

On the shop's computer each pic showed up 3 times in varying
resolutions. This made it a little difficult for the shop to pick
which ones to print. They had to select the high

Hi Martin,
Excel is hugely powerful and can do all that and more - I've been using it
for many years and still there are a huge amount of features, formulas etc
that I haven't even touched on. Typically that's why some people find it
harder to use - it's one thing to know Excel can do it but

Yes I did query it before but didn't think I got the whole answer or
couldn't fully understand it. I had to take the same memory stick in
for a repeat print and was then told the same story.
This is what I did: Put all the pics I wanted into one album - edit-

Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can suggest a good reliable labels
address printing application that is compatible with my system .
all I want to do is print a few label ( not for cd's ) occasionally , (
christmas time etc to save my wife the laborious task of writing them)
Hi John,
I would do it this way:
A) Create a Folder on your Desktop name it for example For The Printer.
1.In iPhoto, Select all the photos in the album that you want to go to the
printer.
2.Choose File Export.
3.Click File Export at the top of the Export Photos window.
4.In the File
Great, thanks Ronni
I will archive your reply with the others. You make it sound so easy.
Cheers

Any good word processor including Pages, M$ Word and good old
AppleWorks can do a Mail Merge. This is where you start with a list
and merge it into a document.
I'm sure free software like open office will have this feature.

Eugene
John, make sure you use Disk Utility to ERASE the Thumb Drive before you put
the new folder of photos onto it.
Let's know how you get on at the Printers after following the below

Hi Bill,
Many of the label vendors (Avery etc) have templates to suit their various
label sheet layouts - you then just use the templates with a normal word
processor.
Try here for starters:

For how-to instructions and note that although they show this on windows all
the MS Word templates should also work just fine on Word on the Mac. Also
there is nothing to stop you
Morning All,
Yes NeoOffice (Mac specific OpenOffice) certainly does have this feature with
relevant templates.
But, a better option being OS X is Address Book comes with templates etc, etc...
So, if your address book is source of addresses it can be achieved for zero
dollars, just your time

Hi Neil
Yes it is about sharing in the long term with other cabinetmakers who do
sometimes work for me.
But I can still scan and e-mail if necessary.

It's not that it is complicated, the export/import is all simple - it's just
that if (like me) you have complex and carefully formatted spreadsheets they
don't go through
