1. How do you force the Trash to empty? I want to delete about 6
months of Time Machine backups, and of course there will be hundreds
of files. It takes the Trash hours to even
calculate the amount. So I am wondering if there is a way of
Hi John,
1. I am thinking you have tried to delete the 6 months of Time Machine Backups
using Finder dragging the files to the Trash.
This is a real BAD IDEA!
If you did do this as I suspect from your email below, Your Time Machine
backups are now corrupted.
You will need to reformat your

For question 2. Have you tried downloading the 10.5.8 Combo Update and
installing that manually. You can download it from here

You can still do an archive and install to save your important

You could open Safari/Preferences/Security/Show cookies and do a search for

I had a look at cookies. No sign of any of that. As I think more about it, I

Hi Pat,
Little Snitch doesn't stop Incoming Connections only Outgoing Network

Another possibility is that it could be low-resolution source material
that has just been pixel-doubled to make it appear larger which can
have the effect of making the image look blurry.
If you view the footage at half-size, it may improve the sharpness of

Hi Michael and Ronni,
I have the same problem with Preview - from memory it's been there pretty
much since day 1 on my new machine with SL 10.6 - although, since it is
somewhat intermittent, I can't be sure about that.
A bit more info/description of the problem:

Hi Neil,
With ref to Ronni's second question, I am not running Preview in 32-bit mode
- why? Should I be? Is this a known problem running in 64-bit mode that is
solved by running in 32-bit? - or were you wondering if the problem was
caused by running in 32-bit?

Hi again Neil,
Within Entourage, I double click the attachment and it opens in Preview -
with a blank window - however (and this is common to all instances of the
problem) if I show the sidebar, a correct thumbnail of the poster can be

Hi Jon,
I don't know how you feel about using Terminal, you could try this to empty the

Force the Trash to empty using Terminal

Hi again Jon,
I just remembered you mentioned that you had removed the 1TB Drive from your
