This, to me is the key statement. If you are good with irons you should be good with hybrids as they are just that, a combination of wood and iron. Shorter in length than woods and weighted more like irons.
As for hybrid lofts most manufacturers have a "substitute guide" showing which iron number is equilivent to which hybrid. You will have to do some trials to see which suits you as the hybrid "substitute guide" is not really a comparison of fairway woods to hybrids since most substitute hybrids for the long irons which they find hard to hit.
