Lanes is a human thing. Neither insects nor birds use them: collision
avoidance seems to suffice. Flocking algorithms are all local, and
fundamentally simple. Multisensor fusion (accelerometers, GPS, UWB radar,
100 fps video) is where it's at.

ants use lanes.
