The day after I installed this aPPo in ACCESS POINT MODE, I performed a HARD power reset. The unit, of course, came back online.
The unit has been operational for 2 days now, without locking up. Here are some facts to take into consideration before deciding that the unit is okay (which it is not): 1. I still have not put any clients on this aPPo for obvious reasons. So...ZERO traffic running through the wireless side 2. The weather here has been unusually gloomy with the temps topping out at 70 degrees, with ZERO sun. So...VERY cool. I believe that a combination of HIGH wireless traffic, with WARM (not hot) days, the unit will CRAP OUT! We will see in a couple days. It was an indoor airPoint (client bridge mode) in a NEMA enclosure and 8db patch antenna, talking with my head-end. That went into a switch and back out to the aPPo (AP mode) on different channel and SSID. I then had an indoor airBridge connected to my laptop on the SSID and channel of the repeater (new aPPo) and it connected fine---as it should. Head-End aPPo <--> airPointIndoor (CB mode) <--> switch <--> aPPo (differenet SSID/channel) <--> airBridge indoor <--> laptop I then started HUGE pings from 3 machines towards the aPi and the aPPo as well as the laptop. I then started huge pings from the laptop to all devices and a few machines on my lan. I logged it all in MRTG all night. Never lost a ping...all was perfect. I then installed that configuration today on a new clients roof (CALL ME STUPID!!). All was running perfectly for the first 1.5 hours. Now the aPPo is once again dead. Cant ping it at all. I dont know if the wireless side is working, because I am out of range from here...and no clients are running off that repeater yet. The airPoint indoor is receving about a 93% RSSI and 90% LQ. The client that is at that location (off the switch also) is running fine. The problem is with these FREAKING aPPo's (and airBridges). The only...ONLY differences between this setup and my garage setup is: 45 ft cable run vs. 15 ft cable run and one was in my cool garage over night vs. hot roof in midday sun. The temperature today is about 80 degrees. Now...smartBridges....tell me....tell me that your firmware fixed the heat problems?!?! Why did you send me these damn bad chip units again. I thought you opened up the units and put good chips in again?!?!? Am I just getting the back stock from Electro-Comm?!?! All my airBridge and aPPo's came with a CD and sticker on the box that said, "LOAD FIRMWARE FIRST!" I did! Please email me off forum to discuss the remedy for this situtation. I graphed it all with MRTG and it looks fine. I dont know why it didnt work on the roof?? I am going to put a 70 ft piece of cat5 on it this morning before I go install it at the repeater location...I will see if that is an issue. I am using the supplied power supply (which is not one of the super old recalled ones). Thanks for the advice though....really!! Can you check the actual voltage on the cable JUST BEFORE IT GOES IN THE APPO using an analog volt meter? You should see no less then 8vdc and the needle should not move any. If the needle swing any then you have a cable or power problem. How long is the cat5 and what power supply are you using? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of The Wirefree Network Sent: Friday, August 15, 2003 11:32 PM To: 'The Wirefree Network'; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [smartBridges] 2 New aPPo's DONT WORK Oh...forgot one thing. During the 5 minute period of the aPPo's working...I was watching the statistics and noticed that the unit's kept rebooting. The statistics would keep going back to zero. Then it just died. What the heck is going on?!?!? First thing I did was upgrade the firmware like the STICKER says on the box. Then burned in my settings with simpleDeploy. All went well. I replaced it and it worked like a champ--all clients reassociated! Woohooo!! Five minutes later clients started dropping off and the Ethernet side died! I did a power reset and it came back up but only a few clients associated back up with it. So...I waited a couple minutes and the Ethernet side died again. I reflashed it...I lowered the firmware...I reflashed it...I upgraded the firmware...I replaced the powershot twice...I did EVERYTHING! The Ethernet side would keep crashing. In case it matters to anyone...it was only 70 degrees here today. So...I put my old unit back up (after only 3 hours of MY LABOR WAISTED) and it worked fine. My old unit periodically crashes..and that is why I am RMAing it. Yesterday...I received my stock (and spares) from Electro-Comm. I started the process ALL OVER AGAIN...with the exact same results (3 more hours waisted). The Ethernet side DIED after 5 minutes. I am once again back on my old aPPo...I have a bunch of pissed off customers....and I am VERY pissed myself. I am soooo sick of spending hours upon hours replacing bad equipment. sB...can you please send me 2 aPPo's from Singapore...that you have actually verified work for longer than 5 minutes?!?!
