Yes the chip is fried, but so is the wiring and everything else at 300'F. The response of the sprinkler head is minimally affected in a 12 Sf room by the higher temperature listing, but it gives the IT dude a warm fussy. I saw some suggestions of installing the Equip in cabinets. While special Cabinets do exist for servers, they are very expensive, and they have problems controlling temperature in the server. The biggest killer of servers is heat. not from fire, but self generated heat they can't get rid of fast enough. IT magazine had an article on the server's at Microsoft or Intel and the way that the input and output cables arrangement could block or disrupt air flow over the server, and cause it to over heat. Spend the money on more A/C and leave the 360'F sprinkler in place.

Tom, I believe the temperature he is describing is of the chip not the room.
The room can be 75F and the chip can be 300F if the fans aren't working
properly in the rack unit. He should get into one of his IT boards and ask his buds how many of them have had accidental discharges from the sprinklers
in their server rooms...or ask his insurance carrrier... or the local fire
department. Any of them should be able to let him know that accidental
discharges happen in movies. He's not in movies, is he?
Are you assuming extra liability by installing a high temperature head in a
closet ?

Tom:

We had the same issue recently. We provided a 360'F head located at the
door
access (4" off wall, with head guard) We had asked the IT guy at what temp was all his stuff fried anyway, and he said anything over 300'F and it all
had to be replaced. Hence the 360'F head. Where it's located at the
doorway
it is protected from most possible damage by the lintel over the door and
the guard is just incidental. Any small leak or drip would drop straight
down and not on any equipment.

If your dead set against a wet head, I think there are Intergin Balls out
there for confined spaces, like boat engine rooms ect.
